JAPANESE PAGODA LAMP

Japanese pagoda lamps, (lanterns), are key elements in creating a peaceful, contemplative atmosphere in a Zen or Japanese-style garden.

They were originally used in Buddhist temples to light the grounds, and tea masters later incorporated them into gardens for their rustic beauty and soft illumination.

Placement Tips:

• They are often used as focal points in a garden.
• Place them near paths to guide the eye or next to a water feature to illuminate the reflections (especially Yukimi-dōrō).
• In a Zen garden, the lighting should be soft and subtle, creating pools of light and shadow to encourage contemplation, rather than flooding the space with brightness.
